The Wikaniko Warriors are a group of Independent Wikaniko Distributors committed to work together to build a brighter future for ourselves, our families and the planet as a whole. We come in all shapes and sizes, ages and gender, colours and creeds, and backgrounds. Each with our own individual hopes and aspirations - yet united in a common purpose.
The challenges and concerns which faced us all at the start of this new decade seem set to continue throughout 2011. Recent events in Japan serve as a timely reminder from Mother Earth to her wayward offspring as to exactly who is in charge !!
The economic crisis, with the partial collapse of the banking and financial sectors, the volatile stock market, and the housing market, and the decline of the pound, all mean that returns on pension plans and investments have fallen drastically. As companies attempt to trade their way through the challenges, cutting costs and shedding jobs have become an everyday occurence.
The environmental crisis, global warming, climate change, pollution of the air we breathe and the water we drink - two vital things that our very lives depend on - are threatened. Our economic system, which is totally dependent on annual growth, has led to the creation of a "take, make, break and throw away" society which present us with the twin problems of dwindling resources and overflowing landfill sites.
But we don't want to dwell on the problems. These issues aren't new. We've been talking about them for years. To paraphrase Peter Russell writing back in 1976,
"This is the time for another apocalyptic look at the day of doom, nor a hearty reassurance that science and technology alone will see us through - it won't ! If we are to avert the coming disaster some very fundamental changes will be neccessary; changes in the way that we relate to ourselves, our bodies, and our environment; changes in the demands we make of others and our planet ; changes in our awareness, in our thinking and in our appreciation of the world. In short changes in ourselves.
